Established in 1958, the School of Physics & Electronic Engineering is one of the earliest schools of JSNU, with a rich cultural heritage and a comprehensive academic edge.

Physics (Physics Teaching) is a Feature Major of Jiangsu Province and a Core Major of Jiangsu “12th Five-Year” Plan Key Major Programme.

Electronic Information is among the Key Major Category of Jiangsu Province.

The School owns a Jiangsu collegiate Collaborative Innovation Center of Advanced Laser Technology and Emerging Industry.

The “Laser Engineering and Technology” and “Optical Engineering” are respectively the first phase and second phase predominant disciplines of Jiangsu Province.

“Laboratory of Advanced Laser Materials and Devices” is rated as provincial key laboratory.

The School has a jointly established National Engineering Practice Teaching Center with Suzhou Anjie Technology Co., Ltd.

For many times, the School hasbeen awarded the title of “JSNU A-grade School”, “Out-standing Unit of Innovative & Characteristic Work ” and other honors.

The School has been awarded “Out-standing Group in Employment Work” time after time with employment rate at 98%, and postgraduate applying rate at about 30%.

The School offers three undergraduate programmes on Physics (Physics Teaching), Electronic Information Engineering and Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering, and Master’s Degree programmes on Optical Engineering (first-class discipline), Materials Science and Engineering (first-class discipline), Theoretical Physics, Optics, Discipline Teaching (Physics) and Control Engineering. Collaborative Innovation Center of Advanced Laser Technology and Emerging Industry is one of the first provincial centres. Laser Engineering and Technology is one of the first provincial predominant disciplines.

The School now has 716 full-time undergraduate students and 71 graduate students, with a well-structured teaching staff of 17 professors, 37 associate professors and 52 master supervisors, 2 double employed academicians and 3 part-time professors from the “Thousand-talent Plan” home and abroad. 38 of the teachers are PhD degree holders and 15 undertake postdoctoral positions. Four teachers are Jiangsu Provincial Innovative and Entrepreneurial Talents. Two are Jiangsu Provincial distinguished professors. 6 have been chosen into Jiangsu Provincial Innovation Project. 3 have been selected into Jiangsu Provincial Six Talent Peaks Project. One won China Returned Overseas Chinese Contribution Award. Two were rated as Jiangsu Provincial Outstanding Workers.

In recent years, our teachers have hosted 43 national natural science funding projects, 26 ministerial and provincial projects. Over 1200 papers have been published on Nature, Nature Communications, PNAS, Physical Review Letters, Nano Letters and Optics Express. We have won 15 ministerial-provincial teaching awards and teaching achievement prizes.

Devoted in quality construction and renowned for strict teaching style, sturdy study atmosphere and standardized management, the School encourages students to participate actively in different kinds of competitions in order to improve their practical and innovative ability. Students have won first prizes in ICM, Challenge Cup and Chinese Normal Colleges & Universities Science Teacher Teaching Skill Competition and won over 200 awards in Physics Teaching Skill Competition, Jiangsu Teachers’ Basic Teaching Skill Competition, National Undergraduate Electronics Design Contest, “Freescale”Smartcar Competition and other contests. More than 100 graduate students have received a degree in science. More than 40 secondary school teachers have received a master’s degree in education, and 8 corporate graduate workstations have been built.
