Jiangsu Normal University, founded in 1952, is located in the historically and culturally significant city of Xuzhou. It is supervised by the Jiangsu provincial government and Central Ministry of Education.
Jiangsu Normal University currently has four campuses: Quanshan, Yunlong, Kuiyuan,Jiawang. The four campuses cover around 1,220,000 square meters with 71000 square meters of building space. The university has fixed assets totaling 1.223 billion Yuan with 374 million Yuan of teaching and research equipment. The library system contains 2.49 million volumes. The university has 22 specialty schools and CW Chu College, Further Education School, International College,Kewen Institute and JSNU-SPbPU Institute of Engineering, the 1st Chinese-Russian Cooperation in Running School without separate legal entity approved by Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. The university offers 68 undergraduate majors, 26 master programs, 1 doctor’s program and 1 post-doctoral research station, covering 11 discipline categories.Currently, the university has over 25,000 full-time undergraduate students and more than 3,000 postgraduates. With over 60 years’ development, Jiangsu Normal University has become a comprehensive teaching research university diverse in all its disciplines.
The university has actively performed the strategy of strengthening the university with talents. The number of the teaching staff is 1463, including 225 professors and 486 associate professors. 41.94% of the teaching staff hold doctorates. The faculty of Jiangsu Normal University also includes 1 Chang Jiang Scholars Distinguished Professor, 1 Chair Professor, 6 Provincial GuestProfessors, 9 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 46 Chang Jiang Scholars and Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars, 3 Provincial Prominent Educator, 32 teachers entitling to Special government allowances ofthe State Council, 4 people have selected as “New Century Outstanding Talents”,9 people have won Outstanding Expert of State, 7 people have selected as “Double-Innovation Talent”, 13 teachers have been selected as the training targets of “Six Major Talent Peaks” of Jiangsu Province, 91 people have been selected in the “333 High-Level Talent Education Project”, 128 people have been selected in “Qing Lan Project”. Jiangsu Normal University has 3 “Qing Lan Project” Outstanding Subject Echelons, 3 Technology Innovation teams, 4 introduced teams of “Provincial Innovative Research Team Project”, 3 Provincial Outstanding Technology Innovation teams and 1 provincial Philosophy of the Social Sciences Outstanding Innovation teams.
In recent years, 2 national level teaching prizes (including 1 first prize) and 43 provincial level teaching prizes (including 2 top prizes) have been awarded. 4 national special discipline cultivating station, 1 teaching team, 6 quality courses, 1 quality teaching material, 2 “Twelfth-five-plan” comprehensive reform trial program of Ministry of Education, 6 demonstration programs of teaching team building of Ministry of Education; 2 provincial excellent teaching teams; 48 provincial quality courses. Recently, our students have won the 10 prizes in the Challenge Cup, the national-level University extra curricular academic technology competition, over one thousand prizes in college students electronic design competition, and mathematical modeling competition.
In recent 5 years, the university has been awarded 1066 research programs of all types, among which there are 349 national fund projects, including 15 national social fund projects (7 grand projects, 8 key projects), 1 national natural science fund key project and 1 national outstanding youth fund project. 65 provincial or above level scientific awards are conferred, including natural science awards by Ministry of Education and so on. More than 6700 papers were published on sub-journal of Nature, PNAS, JACS, BRAIN, Chinese Social Science and other domestic and foreign academic journals.
The university establishes three base for technology transformation, supported by key lab, engineering center and co-innovation center, based on the Belt and Road Institution industry research institution., university technology park,and technology transferring center. The system of research oriented ,technology transferred, product brooding has been set up. All these have greatly improved the scientific service ability of the university.
University technology park is approved as national technology business incubator and national college students’ innovation training base; while technology transferring center is approved as national technology transferring demonstration agency. Some strategic cooperation agreements have been signed, including 7 university & local government co-platforms, 25 university & enterprise co-researchcenters, 59 university & enterprise associations, over 400 university & local government & enterprise projects. Provide service for more than 500 enterprises. At present, a group of marked products have been developed;transparent ceramics, LED ceramic phosphor, YAG ceramic plate, Cordyceps,natto, special welding electrode have been made into products.
Jiangsu Normal University works consistently to combine traditional Chinese culture with innovation. We have provided lecturers to CCTV’s Lecture Room series, strengthened overseas exchange programs and helped create Confucius Institutes. The university is reviving interest in the Han culture as part of anew Chinese renaissance.
Jiangsu Normal University was one of the first Chinese universities authorized to receive overseas students. We have established intercollegiate relationship with 58 colleges and universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Russia. We have had students from 26 countries and regions. The university also set up Confucius Institutes on both the United States and Australia. Additionally, we have joint programs with universities in the United States, Australia, Japan, Russia and Belarus. There are faculty exchange programs with universities around the world including Harvard University and Hong Kong University.
